Andar Bahar is about as simple as card games get: one card is turned face up, and you bet on whether its match will land on the Andar (inside) or Bahar (outside) pile. There is no hand to build and nothing to decide once the dealing starts. Step by step

1. The dealer shuffles a standard 52-card deck and reveals one card in the centre. This is the joker, also called the game card.
2. Players bet on Andar or Bahar before the betting timer runs out.
3. Cards are dealt face up, one at a time, alternating between the two piles.
4. As soon as a card matches the joker's rank, the round stops. Suit and colour make no difference: if the joker is the 7 of hearts, any 7 settles it.
5. Bets on the pile that received the match are paid, and the rest lose.

Which side gets the first card?

Depending on the version, the first card may always go to the same pile, or the choice may depend on the joker, for example its colour. Because the pile dealt first has a fractionally better chance of catching the match, its payout is usually trimmed so the two bets stay balanced. Check the table's rules before you choose a side.

How long a round lasts

Three other cards of the joker's rank are hidden somewhere in the remaining 51, so a match can turn up on the very first card or only after many. A long round does not make a match due on either side.

Side bets

Many live tables let you predict extra details, such as how many cards will be dealt before the match, often grouped into ranges, or features of the joker card itself. These pay more because they are harder to hit, and they generally carry a higher house edge than a plain Andar or Bahar bet.
