Andar Bahar: Rules, How to Play, Payouts & Live Tables in India

Learn how to play Andar Bahar: the joker card, Andar vs Bahar, payouts, side bets, live variants like Super and Ultimate Andar Bahar, and INR bet sizing.

Andar Bahar is one of the simplest card games there is, and one of the most popular in India. It's also called Katti or Mangatha in the south. There's no hand ranking to learn and no skill involved: one card is turned up and you guess which side its match lands on. This guide explains the rules, why the two sides can pay differently, how the side bets work, and what to expect at live Andar Bahar tables online.

18+ only. Andar Bahar for real money is gambling. Play only with money you can afford to lose.

What is Andar Bahar?

Andar Bahar ("inside, outside") is played with a single 52-card deck. The dealer turns up one card, called the joker or game card, and places it in the middle. Players bet on which side, Andar (inside, left) or Bahar (outside, right), will receive a card of the same rank first. Suits don't matter. If the joker is the 7♥, the first 7 of any suit decides the round.

How a round works

  1. Bets. Players place their bets on Andar or Bahar, plus any side bets.
  2. The joker. The dealer reveals the game card face up.
  3. Dealing. Cards are dealt one at a time, alternating between Andar and Bahar.
  4. The match. As soon as a card of the same rank as the joker appears, the round ends. The side that received it wins.
  5. Settlement. Winning bets are paid, and a new round begins with a freshly shuffled deck.

A round can end on the very first card or run for 20-plus cards. That unpredictability is a big part of the game's appeal.

Why Andar and Bahar can pay differently

The side that gets the first dealt card has a small built-in advantage, because it gets the first chance to match. To balance this, many versions pay that side slightly less than even money, for example 0.9 to 1, and pay the other side 1 to 1. In some versions the first card goes to the side opposite the joker's colour, or it's fixed by the table rules. See which side gets the first card in each version.

The details depend on the version, so always check the paytable in the game's info panel. Either way, both sides carry a small house edge. Picking one side over the other doesn't beat the game.

Side bets explained

Most live Andar Bahar tables offer side bets on how many cards will be dealt before the match, in bands such as 1–5, 6–10, 11–15, 16–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40 and 41+. Short and very long rounds are rarer, so those bands pay more.

Some versions also offer bets on the joker itself, such as its colour, whether it's high or low, or its suit.

Side bets pay more, but they win less often and usually carry a higher house edge than the main Andar/Bahar bet. Treat them as small extras, not the core of your play.

Andar Bahar myths

"Andar wins more often, so always bet Andar." Any edge from getting the first card is priced into the payout. Over time, neither side beats the house.

"After three Bahar wins, Andar is due." Every round uses a freshly shuffled deck and is independent of previous rounds. The table has no memory.

"There's an Andar Bahar trick or prediction app." There isn't one. Live tables use physical shuffles on camera, and no app can see the next card. Andar Bahar "prediction" apps and Telegram tip groups are a common scam route. Never share your Betroxy login.

Bet sizing in INR

These are illustrations only, not Betroxy's table limits. Check each table's minimum and maximum stake.

Stake on Bahar (1:1) Win Loss
₹50 +₹50 –₹50
₹200 +₹200 –₹200
Stake on a side paying 0.9:1 Win Loss
₹100 +₹90 –₹100
₹500 +₹450 –₹500

Rounds are fast, often under a minute, so money moves quickly. Keep each stake to around 2–5% of your session budget. A ₹1,000 budget means ₹20–₹50 per round. Stop when the budget or your time limit is reached.

Andar Bahar FAQ

How do you play Andar Bahar?

A joker card is turned up. You bet on whether a card of the same rank will land on the Andar (inside) or Bahar (outside) side first. Cards are dealt alternately until one matches.

Do suits matter in Andar Bahar?

No. Only the rank matters. If the joker is a King, the first King of any suit decides the round.

Why does one side pay 0.9 to 1?

In many versions, the side that receives the first card has a slight advantage, so its payout is reduced to balance the odds. Check the paytable of the table you're playing.

Is there a winning strategy for Andar Bahar?

No. Every round is random and both sides carry a house edge. Flat, small stakes and a fixed budget are the only sensible approach.

Can I play live Andar Bahar on mobile?

Yes. Betroxy's Andar Bahar tables run in your mobile browser. There's no Betroxy app or APK, so avoid unofficial downloads.
