Teen Patti ("three cards") is India's favourite card game, along with Andar Bahar (see Andar Bahar rules). It's played at family gatherings, at Diwali card parties and now online at live casino tables, where you can play Teen Patti for real cash. If you know poker you'll pick it up quickly, but the hand rankings and the "blind" and "seen" betting rules are different. This guide covers the rules, the hand rankings, how betting works at a home game, how casino Teen Patti differs, and how to size your bets in rupees.
18+ only. Teen Patti for real money is gambling. Play only with money you can afford to lose.
What is Teen Patti?
Teen Patti is a three-card game played with a standard 52-card deck and no jokers. It's usually played with 3 to 6 players. Every player puts a fixed starting amount, the boot, into the pot. Each player is then dealt three cards face down. Players take turns betting, or they pack (fold). The best three-card hand wins the pot, or the last player left in wins it. You can play at Betroxy's live Teen Patti tables.
The game comes from three-card brag and is often called "Indian poker." It's simpler than poker, though: there's no draw and no community cards.
Teen Patti hand rankings (highest to lowest)
| Rank | Hand | Example | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail / Trio | A♠ A♥ A♦ | Three cards of the same rank |
| 2 | Pure Sequence | Q♥ K♥ A♥ | Three consecutive cards of the same suit |
| 3 | Sequence (Run) | 4♣ 5♦ 6♠ | Three consecutive cards, mixed suits |
| 4 | Colour (Flush) | 2♦ 8♦ J♦ | Three cards of the same suit, not in sequence |
| 5 | Pair | 10♠ 10♣ 3♥ | Two cards of the same rank |
| 6 | High Card | K♠ 9♦ 4♣ | None of the above. The highest card decides |
A few points catch new players out:
- A sequence beats a colour. Poker ranks them the other way round. With three cards a run is harder to make than a flush, so it ranks higher.
- A-K-Q is the top sequence. In most rules A-2-3 comes next and K-Q-J after it. House rules vary, so agree them before a home game. Our page on Teen Patti tie-breaks and where A-2-3 ranks explains the common options.
- Ties: compare the highest card, then the next, then the last. Between two pairs, the higher pair wins. If the pairs match, the odd card decides.
How rare is each hand?
With 22,100 possible three-card hands, the approximate probabilities are:
| Hand | Probability |
|---|---|
| Trail | ~0.24% |
| Pure Sequence | ~0.22% |
| Sequence | ~3.26% |
| Colour | ~4.96% |
| Pair | ~16.94% |
| High Card | ~74.39% |
About three hands in four are high-card hands. Many pots are won by bluffing, or by a plain Ace-high that nobody challenges.
How betting works: blind, seen, chaal and show
This is the traditional home-game format. Casino versions are different (see below).
Blind vs seen
- A blind player hasn't looked at their cards. The minimum bet for a blind player is the current stake.
- A seen player (a chaal player) has looked at their cards. A seen player must bet at least twice the current stake and no more than four times it.
Playing blind is cheaper, which puts pressure on seen players. It's also a real disadvantage, because you're betting without information.
Actions on your turn
- Chaal / bet: stay in by matching (or raising within the limits) the current stake.
- Pack: fold. You lose what you've already put in.
- Sideshow: a seen player can ask the previous seen player to compare hands privately. If the other player accepts, the weaker hand must pack. If they refuse, play continues.
- Show: when only two players remain, one can pay for a show. Both hands are revealed and the higher hand wins the pot.
Pot limits: many home games cap the pot, for example at 1,024 × the boot, so stakes can't escalate without limit. Agree this upfront.
Casino Teen Patti vs home Teen Patti
Online casino tables use the same hand rankings but a simpler structure. You usually aren't betting against other players. Betroxy has several Teen Patti tables in its live casino:
- Teen Patti, a live-dealer table built around the classic three-card hand rankings.
- One Day Teen Patti, a quick-round live version.
- Teen Patti 3 Card, a three-card table game format.
- Bet on Teen Patti, where you bet on which of two hands wins instead of playing a hand yourself.
In these games you typically bet on the outcome of a hand, for example your hand against the dealer's, or Player A against Player B, with optional side bets on hand types such as a pair or better. Payouts, side bets and the house edge differ by table, so open the game's info panel and read the paytable before your first bet. You'll find all of them in the live poker and Teen Patti lobby.
What's different in casino play:
- No bluffing. The dealer doesn't fold, so the best hand always wins.
- Fixed payouts replace a shared pot.
- There's a house edge. Over time the casino keeps a small share of all bets. No betting pattern changes that.
Bet sizing in INR
The figures below illustrate budgeting only. They aren't Betroxy's table limits. Check the minimum and maximum stake on each table before you play.
| Session budget | Suggested stake (2–5%) | Rounds before the budget runs out on a losing streak |
|---|---|---|
| ₹500 | ₹10–₹25 | 20–50 |
| ₹1,000 | ₹20–₹50 | 20–50 |
| ₹5,000 | ₹100–₹250 | 20–50 |
Habits that help:
- Set a budget and a time limit before you sit down, and stop when you hit either one.
- Keep stakes flat. Raising after a loss to "win it back" is the fastest way to empty a budget.
- Treat side bets as entertainment. They pay more but hit less often, and they usually carry a higher house edge than the main bet.
- Ignore "Teen Patti tricks" and hack apps. Casino shuffles are random, no app can see the cards, and "mod" APKs are a common malware and scam route. Betroxy has no app to download, so play only on the website.

Teen Patti FAQ
How do you play Teen Patti?
Each player gets three cards. Players bet in turn or fold (pack), and the best three-card hand, or the last player left, wins the pot. At casino tables you bet on a hand's outcome at fixed payouts instead.
What is the highest hand in Teen Patti?
A Trail (three of a kind), and three Aces is the best Trail. After that come a Pure Sequence, a Sequence, a Colour, a Pair and a High Card.
Does a sequence beat a colour in Teen Patti?
Yes. Unlike poker, a sequence (run) ranks above a colour (flush) in Teen Patti, because it's the rarer hand with three cards.
What is the difference between blind and seen?
A blind player bets without looking at their cards and pays the current stake. A seen player has looked and must bet two to four times the current stake.
Can I play Teen Patti for real money on mobile?
Betroxy's Teen Patti tables run in mobile browsers on Android and iOS. There's no Betroxy app or APK, so avoid unofficial downloads.
Is there a trick to always win at Teen Patti?
No. Casino Teen Patti uses random shuffles and has a house edge. No trick, predictor or app can guarantee wins.
