Baccarat looks glamorous, but the rules are simple. You bet on which of two hands, Player or Banker, will finish closer to 9. You don't decide whether to draw a card; the dealer follows fixed rules. That makes online baccarat one of the easiest table games for Indian players who want short rounds in ₹. What is baccarat?
Baccarat is a comparing card game. Two hands are dealt: one labelled Player and one labelled Banker. Those labels are table positions, not "you" versus the house. You can bet on either hand, or on a Tie.
The hand whose total is closer to 9 wins. Aces count as 1, cards 2–9 keep their face value, and 10, Jack, Queen and King count as 0. If the total goes over 9, only the last digit counts. For example, 7 + 8 = 15, which scores as 5.
A two-card total of 8 or 9 is a natural. Naturals are settled at once and neither hand draws a third card.
How a round works
- Place your bets on Player, Banker, Tie or any side bets the table offers, within the table limits shown on screen.
- Two cards are dealt face up to the Player hand and two to the Banker hand.
- Naturals settle immediately. If either hand has 8 or 9, the round ends.
- Third-card rules may add one more card to Player, Banker or both. You never choose; the software or live dealer applies the rules automatically.
- Payouts are credited to winning bets and a new round starts.
Rounds on speed tables can finish in under a minute, so money can move quickly. Decide your stake and session budget before the betting window opens.
Main bets and typical payouts
Exact payouts are printed in each game's info panel. The pattern below is the standard punto banco style most online tables use:
- Player: usually pays 1:1 (even money) when the Player hand wins.
- Banker: usually pays 1:1 with a small commission (often 5%) on wins, because Banker wins slightly more often over the long run. Some no-commission tables remove the fee and change the Banker payout on certain totals; always read that table's rules.
- Tie: usually pays 8:1 or 9:1 when both hands finish with the same total. Ties are less common, so the payout is higher, and the house edge on Tie is usually larger than on Player or Banker.
Side bets (pairs, lucky numbers, lightning multipliers and similar) pay more when they hit and usually carry a higher house edge. Treat them as small extras, not the core of your play.
There is no betting system that overcomes the house edge. The same is true at the roulette wheel. Flat, modest stakes and a fixed stop point are the only sensible approach.
Third-card rules (short version)
You do not need to memorise every line to play, but knowing the outline helps you follow the deal:
- Player draws a third card on a total of 0–5 and stands on 6–7.
- If Player stands, Banker draws on 0–5 and stands on 6–7.
- If Player draws, Banker's decision depends on Banker's total and on the value of Player's third card. The table applies this automatically.
When either hand starts with a natural 8 or 9, no third card is drawn.
