7 Up 7 Down is one of the simplest betting games in India. At village melas, on festival tables and in live casinos, the question is always the same: will the result be below 7, above 7, or exactly 7? This guide explains how the 7 Up 7 Down game works in its two common forms, dice and cards, the real odds behind each bet, and how to play sensibly in ₹.
What is 7 Up 7 Down?
7 Up 7 Down (also written 7 Up Down, and closely linked to the name Lucky 7) is a number-prediction game built around the number seven. Each round produces a single result, and you bet on which of three zones it falls into:
- 7 Down: the result is lower than 7.
- 7 Up: the result is higher than 7.
- Exactly 7: the result is 7 itself, often called the Lucky 7 bet.
There are no opponents to read and no decisions once your bet is placed. Rounds take seconds, which makes the game popular, and also makes it easy to bet more than you planned.
Two versions: dice and cards
The dice version is the traditional one. The dealer shakes two six-sided dice, usually in a cup or shaker, and the two faces are added together, so totals run from 2 to 12. If a die lands tilted or on top of the other, it is rolled again.
The card version uses playing cards instead. One card is dealt face up each round. The ace counts as 1 and the jack, queen and king as 11, 12 and 13, so the 7 sits exactly in the middle of the 13 ranks: ace to 6 is 7 Down, and 8 to king is 7 Up.
On Betroxy, the live 7 Up 7 Down table from Ezugi is card-based, and the Lucky 7 lobby uses the same one-card idea. Always open the game's help screen to confirm the format and the paytable before your first bet, because the odds are very different with dice and with cards.
How a round works
- Betting opens. A short timer runs on screen.
- Place your chips on 7 Down, 7 Up or Exactly 7. Many tables let you back more than one zone, and card tables may add side bets such as red or black.
- Betting closes, and the dealer rolls the dice or deals the card.
- Bets are settled automatically, and any winnings go to your balance.
- The next round starts straight away.
Live tables also show recent results, but the history predicts nothing: dice have no memory, and one card taken from a shoe barely changes the odds of the next.
The real odds: dice version
Two dice have 6 × 6 = 36 equally likely combinations. This is how the totals split:
| Total | Ways to roll it | Zone |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 7 Down |
| 3 | 2 | 7 Down |
| 4 | 3 | 7 Down |
| 5 | 4 | 7 Down |
| 6 | 5 | 7 Down |
| 7 | 6 | Exactly 7 |
| 8 | 5 | 7 Up |
| 9 | 4 | 7 Up |
| 10 | 3 | 7 Up |
| 11 | 2 | 7 Up |
| 12 | 1 | 7 Up |
That gives these chances of winning:
- 7 Down: 15 of 36 outcomes, about 41.7%.
- 7 Up: 15 of 36 outcomes, about 41.7%.
- Exactly 7: 6 of 36 outcomes, about 16.7%, or 1 in 6.
What this means for payouts. In the classic dice game, 7 Up and 7 Down usually pay even money (1:1), but each side wins only 15 times in 36. If you bet ₹100 on 7 Up for 36 rounds and the results followed the odds exactly, you would win ₹1,500 and lose ₹2,100: a ₹600 shortfall, or 16.7% of everything you staked. A fair price for Exactly 7 would be 5 to 1, so any table that pays less than that keeps the difference as its edge.
The real odds: card version
A standard deck has 13 ranks, and each rank appears four times in every 52 cards. However many decks are in the shoe, the shares stay the same:
- 7 Down (ace to 6): 6 of 13 ranks, about 46.2%.
- 7 Up (8 to king): 6 of 13 ranks, about 46.2%.
- Exactly 7: 1 of 13 ranks, about 7.7%.
So 7 Up and 7 Down win more often with cards than with dice, while the 7 itself is far rarer: on average, about once in every 13 rounds. A fair price for Exactly 7 in the card game would be 12 to 1.
Card tables handle a 7 in different ways. On some, 7 Up and 7 Down bets simply lose when a 7 is dealt; on others, part of your stake comes back. That one rule changes the value of the main bets, so look for it in the paytable. Red and black side bets are a true 50/50, because every deck has 26 red and 26 black cards, so any payout below even money is the house's share.
Why there is no winning system
Search for 7 Up 7 Down and you will find "tricks", "patterns" and prediction apps. None of them work:
- Every round is independent. Five 7 Ups in a row do not make 7 Down "due".
- Doubling after a loss doesn't change the maths. Systems like the Martingale turn many small wins into occasional big losses, and sooner or later you hit your budget or the table limit.
- Predictor apps and "hack" tools are scams. Live results come from real dice or cards on camera, and nobody outside the studio can know them in advance.
The only things you control are which bet you choose, how much you stake, and when you stop.
Simple tips for 7 Up 7 Down
- Know which version you are playing. Dice and cards give different odds for every bet.
- Read the paytable first. Compare each payout with the fair prices above; the gap is the house edge.
- Treat Exactly 7 as a long shot. It wins 1 time in 6 with dice and 1 time in 13 with cards, so long losing runs are normal.
- Fix your stake per round. Fast rounds add up: ₹100 a round for 60 rounds is ₹6,000 in total stakes.
- Set a time limit and a loss limit, and stop at whichever comes first.

7 Up 7 Down FAQ
Is 7 Up 7 Down a game of skill or luck? Luck. The result comes from dice or a dealt card, and no strategy changes the odds of the next round. Your only decisions are which bet to place and how much to stake.
Which bet has the best chance of winning? 7 Up and 7 Down are equally likely: 15 in 36 with two dice, and 6 in 13 with cards. Exactly 7 wins less often but pays more, so compare your table's payouts with the real odds above.
Is 7 Up 7 Down the same as Lucky 7? They are closely related. "Lucky 7" is a common name for the Exactly 7 bet, and it is also the name of a card-based version in live casinos. Both ask whether the result will be above, below or exactly 7.
Can I play 7 Up 7 Down on my phone? Yes. Betroxy's live tables run in your mobile browser, so there is no app to download.
Is it legal to play 7 Up 7 Down online in India? Rules on online real-money games in India differ from state to state and have changed in recent years, including a central online gaming law passed in 2025. Check the rules that apply where you live before you play.
